Yes, sometimes you are going to step in it! And sometimes the perception of a few will get a mob of bloggers talking about something that I still am trying to figure out what the real harm was... So I encourage brands to step into Social Media and engage us! Sure you will get it wrong sometimes, and quite possibly have your message taken in a completely different way than you expected but in the end it will be well worth joining the conversation!

Hi Charity,

I'm honored that my post on context and self-censorship helped spark your post about responsibility. It can be a rough online world right now for brands, whether "personal," corporate, or organizational. But I agree with you: your members, customers, and clients are interacting online, and you don't want to be standing on the sidelines. Thus, it is no longer a matter of whether to participate but rather of figuring out how and where best to engage your stakeholders online, and making sure you have a plan to do so that aligns with your business goals.

Best,
Daria
